Weeding/Miscellaneous

Tired of battling those pesky weeds? Have tasks that need done but don’t know who to call? Good Neighbour’s Miscellaneous Crew can take care of those exterior chores you’d rather not deal with and is available at an hourly rate for both residential and commercial properties.

Garden/Flower Bed Maintenance

For garden/flower bed maintenance, our crew:

  1. Removes by hand any weeds and debris from beds,
  2. Tidies up the bed edges and cultivates the soil, and lastly,
  3. Rakes the beds level to provide a clean and well maintained appearance.

*Pro Tip*

When designing your flower beds, consider a ground cover that caters to your planting desires/needs. Want the advantages of perennials/shrubs with no to low maintenance? Consider using decorative rock and landscape fabric. Landscape fabric, decorative rock, or mulch are great for weed prevention, however, they don’t add a lot of flexibility in annual plantings. If you want to exercise your green thumb and would like to plant annuals, we recommend leaving your beds bare or using mulch for ease with ongoing soil cultivation and ease of planting.

Weed Control

The best fight against weeds is a healthy lawn. Contact us today to discuss options to encourage lawn growth such as:

  • Top Dressing and Overseeding
  • Spot treatment for weeds
  • Manual weed removal

A thick, healthy lawn provides a natural defense against weeds. Your lawn is in constant competition with weeds for moisture and nutrients – ensuring your lawn has the upper hand over these obnoxious invaders can be achieved through top dressing, overseeding and fertilization. Through these steps, we can reduce the amount of herbicide required to keep your lawn looking healthy, happy and weed free!

Overseeding

Overseeding is a quick and inexpensive way to bring your lawn back to its best without tearing it all out and starting over. In basic terms, overseeding is planting grass seed over existing lawn/turf. This practice helps promote a thicker and healthier lawn, which in turn helps deter weed growth. Tired of looking at thin, patchy spots in your lawn? Overseeding can help rejuvenate these areas and reduce the amount of herbicide and fertilizer needed to revive your lawn.

When considering overseeding, timing is important. Overseeding after aeration allows the grass seed to penetrate the soil through the cored holes in your lawn. The more grass seed that is in contact with the soil, the greater the germination rate, and the better your result.

We recommend overseeding in either the fall, when the soil is still warm but there are fewer weeds for new grass to compete with, or in the spring (post aeration).

Top Dressing

Top dressing is the process of applying a layer of soil, compost or sand over the top surface of your turf. Top dressing provides benefits that improve the overall quality of your lawn’s soil over time and promotes new grass growth. Top dressing with sandy soils can improve your lawn’s ability to retain moisture, helping it become more resistant to drought. In addition, if you have clay soil, applying sand helps with drainage and improves grass root development. We recommend top dressing annually, to improve the health of your soil and lawn.
